New Nathan WUs on long

Hey guys, I have put some new work on the long queue. These workunits are small and don't require any special algorithms, so should be no problems. With these workunits, I'll be looking at the folding of a small peptide using a special force field. The biophysics community uses different force fields to represent the motions of proteins and other molecules, and we are attempting to test a new one so we can check some previous work and feel comfortable in work we are planning to do. New Server goes online

Finally we did it! POEM@HOME is now running on new hardware. Hopefully this step will decrease our lately discovered bottlenecks for a long time. The data has been synced from the old server, so you shouldn't notice the switchover. If you experience any problems nevertheless, please reply here. Endlich ist es soweit! POEM@HOME läuft jetzt auf neuer Hardware. Hoffentlich behebt dieser Schritt die kürzlich entdeckten Flaschenhälse für eine lange Zeit. Sämtliche Daten wurden mit dem alten Server abgeglichen, also sollte der Wechsel nicht bemerkbar sein. Wenn es trotzdem zu Problemen kommen sollte, bitte antwortet hier.

The forums are back. The fancy front page will take a while. As far as I saw, it was a virus injection in the Drupal code that the front page uses. It's taken all this time to take it down as it ran on a server I had no access to. The next thing to do is ask Google to come check our sanity any further. And see what we want to do with the Drupal front page. if anyone has more Drupal knowledge than me, PM me. Of course, if you know how to make a fancy HTML page, your help is also welcome.

Canceled SDOERR WU's

I apologize for all whose WU's were cancelled today in the process of stopping the old ones and re-sending the new fixed ones. At the beginning I didn't realize the effect and extend of the cancellation (since it was not intended to work this way), but I see now that many hours of computation and credits were lost due to this. It seems to have been a bug in a script that had not been seen before until now, so we will refrain from using it until it has been fixed. I realize that the computation time is very important for everyone so we hope that such hiccups won't happen too often in the future. Many thanks for your patience and calculations!

¿En qué consiste?

Los métodos de Cribado Virtual (CV) pueden ayudar considerablemente en el proceso de descubrimiento de nuevos fármacos y en investigación clínica, prediciendo como los ligandos interaccionan con determinadas dianas terapéuticas. La mayoría de los métodos CV suponen la existencia de un único sitio de unión con la proteína, que normalmente se deriva de la interpretación de la información cristalográfica disponible sobre la proteína. No obstante se ha demostrado que esto es incorrecto y que en muchos casos diferentes ligandos interaccionan con partes distintas de la proteína, y la mayoría de métodos existentes, incluso comerciales, de CV no tienen en cuenta este efecto.

Para solucionar este problema hemos desarrollado BINDSURF, una nueva metodología de CV que analiza detalladamente la superficie de la proteína para encontrar ponteciales zonas de interacción donde los ligandos podrían interaccionar, y que ha sido diseñada e implementada en hardware masivamente paralelo tal como GPU, lo cual permite procesar rápidamente y de manera eficiente grandes librerías de ligandos.

Las predicciones obtenidas con BINDSURF pueden además guiar la aplicación posterior de otros métodos de CV a zonas de la proteína ya caracterizadas por éste método, y por tanto su utilización ayuda en…

More work coming now.

We have introduced a new SixTrack Version 4446 and I am resuming production on an intensity scan as well as running more tests; usual mixture of short/long run times. We are also trying to return more results files to help identify problems. Thanks for your help as usual. Eric.

The space-based gravitational-wave observatory eLISA (evolved Laser Interferometer Satellite Antenna) will be one of the contendors. S@H version 7.03 released for ATI/AMD GPUs under windows.

Thus far, they are BOINC 7, only. I'm deciding whether it's safe to continue releasing BOINC 6 revisions of ATI apps. X64 Linux versions should be out shortly. There are now two versions. One for HD5000+ cards only and that works on all cards including pre-HD5000 cards. These versions should get delivered to Catalyst version 12.10 and earlier, and Catalyst 13.2 and later. If you've got one of those driver revisions and aren't getting work, let me know.

Currently high server load due to BOINC pentathlon

As announced, SIMAP is marathon discipline in the BOINC Pentathlon organized by seti-germany.de. Many users had pre-calculated lots of results and are submitting them since the start of the pentathlon this morning. This causes a high load on the upload/download server, due to the limits in network and storage bandwidth. However, the whole system is functioning normally and generates continuously new workunits. We expect that the load will reduce soon, however it will remain at a substantial level during the Pentathlon until May 19. cheers Thomas

Tests of new scheduler features.

I've added some new scheduler features to hopefully ensure that you (eventually) get the fastest application version for your processor/GPU. But in order to make sure I did it right, I'm going to need to reset the app_version and per host app version statistics. It'll take a week or so for things to get back to normal. You'll initially see some non-optimal application choices (like CUDA3.2 on your CUDA5 card or CAL on your ATI card /w OpenCL.) This is deliberate. Please let them run. It's the only way I can see that the slow versions stop being sent. Once I'm sure things work, I'll set them back the way they were.

Los próximos días 17 y 18 de mayo, en Madrid, nos gustaría que nos acompañases.

Si te gusta la ciencia, la tecnología, el diseño, o si eres muy curioso te invitamos a participar en este evento sobre Ciencia Ciudadana en el que participarán científicos amateurs, humanistas, tecnólogos, desarrolladores, diseñadores, estudiantes y científicos creando nuevos prototipos de proyectos/aplicaciones científicas, compartiendo sus conocimientos y mostrando las herramientas de software libre que utilizan en sus proyectos científicos (Epicollect, PyBossa y/o BOINC).

El objetivo del evento es mostrar el potencial que la Ciencia Ciudadana brinda a los ciudadanos así como a científicos profesionales gracias a las nuevas tecnologías. En el evento se mostrarán herramientas sobrevolunteer sensing: adquisición de datos con teléfonos móviles para proyectos científicos, volunteer thinking: resolución de problemas científicos desde tu navegador web y volunteer computing: donde tu ordenador contribuye sus recursos ejecutando simulaciones científicas.

Como muchos habreis comprobado ( y apuntado ) la duración de algunas de las wus creadas en este trabajo ha sobrepasado ampliamente las 100 horas, por eso queremos reiterar nuestro agradecimiento a vuestra paciencia.
